Coevolutionary Process Control
نویسنده
چکیده
This text describes the use of a Coevolutionary Genetic Algorithm (CGA) for process control. The CGA combines two Artificial Life techniques life-time fitness evaluation (LTFE) and coevolution to improve the genetic search for a Neural Network (NN) controlling a given process. Here, the approach is illustrated and tested on a well-known bioreactor control problem which involves issues of delay, nonlinearity and instability. The goal is to control the system such that it is steered towards and then remains at a specific point in the state space. Different types of target points are used in the experiments: stable and unstable points. This paper concentrates on the features of CGAs which are particularly relevant for process control.

Contrasted coevolutionary dynamics between a bacterial pathogen and its bacteriophages.
Many antagonistic interactions between hosts and their parasites result in coevolution. Although coevolution can drive diversity and specificity within species, it is not known whether coevolutionary dynamics differ among functionally similar species. We present evidence of coevolution within simple communities of Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 and a panel of bacteriophages. Pathogen identity affe...
متن کاملTesting for coevolutionary diversification: linking pattern with process.
Coevolutionary diversification is cited as a major mechanism driving the evolution of diversity, particularly in plants and insects. However, tests of coevolutionary diversification have focused on elucidating macroevolutionary patterns rather than the processes giving rise to such patterns. Hence, there is weak evidence that coevolution promotes diversification. This is in part due to a lack o...
متن کاملDefensive complexity and the phylogenetic conservation of immune control
One strategy for winning a coevolutionary struggle is to evolve rapidly. Most of the literature on host-pathogen coevolution focuses on this phenomenon, and looks for consequent evidence of coevolutionary arms races. An alternative strategy, less often considered in the literature, is to deter rapid evolutionary change by the opponent. To study how this can be done, we construct an evolutionary...
متن کاملGame Theory Based Coevolutionary Algorithm: A New Computational Coevolutionary Approach
Game theory is a method of mathematical analysis developed to study the decision making process. In 1928, Von Neumann mathematically proved that every two-person, zerosum game with many pure finite strategies for each player is deterministic. In the early 50's, Nash presented another concept as the basis for a generalization of Von Neumann’s theorem. Another central achievement of game theory i...
متن کاملCoevolutionary Computation: An Introduction
Agent technology is synonymous with advanced computer software and a growing body of work exists on the use of adaptive techniques within the agent paradigm (e.g. [Kozierok & Maes 1993]). The distributed and/or multi-faceted nature of complex problem domains, such as network routing or process control, has lead to the extension of agent frameworks to multi-agent systems, both within traditional...
